Eliminating Constant Barkers
12 15th, 2008 Author: Chew_Toy
Whether due to their size, or their personality, smaller dogs tend to bark the most, and if untrained, it can be nerveracking. The best way to train your dog not to bark is to start at an early age, though dogs of all ages can be taught with a bit more effort. One humane method to deter barking is a squirt of lemon juice, the theory behind this being that dogs can’t bark and pucker at the same time. Once your dog is aware of what lemon juice in, simply showing them the bottle or mentioning the word will stop their barking.
Another way to deter barking in older dogs is through use of a dog bark collar. This collar will give the dog a little shock every time they bark, and after a short amount of time, they will realize that they shouldn’t bark, and you will no longer need the collar.

To prevent your dog from dragging you down the street, there are a number of measures you can take to successfully train them to walk in stride. For larger dogs, a choke collar is advisable. This collar gives the dog a small pinch whenever they pull on the leash too hard. For smaller dogs, nose collars and dog harnesses are advisable because they will pull back on the dog’s head (nose collar), or front legs (harness) whenever they pull too hard, and train them gradually to walk with you.
In addition to these methods, praise and treats following a tug on the leash or when the dog walks with you in stride will go a long way.
Owning a Mastiff

As one of the largest dog breeds on the planet, the English Mastiff can be a handful for its owner, but the Mastiff is also one of the most loving and fun breeds to own. Despite their size and appearance, Mastiffs tend to be calm, affectionate, and good with kids and small children. When put on the defense, Mastiffs can also act as guard dogs; they are fiercely loyal to their masters. Mastiffs do not require excessive exercise, but do require regular exercise throughout their lives. Because of their size, Mastiffs will require a great deal more food than a standard medium size dog.
Items like thick leather leashes, special order collars, and raised dog bowls may be necessary to accommodate the dog’s size, and can be purchased through specialty stores or online.

I’ve heard people ask why people would ever buy steps or a ramp for their pet. Anyone who has ever grown old with a beloved pet knows how hard it is to see them struggle to make it to a high piece of furniture, or winced their smaller dog has had a difficult time jumping up into a raised vehicle.
This is a newer product for TK Dog Toys, and it is an innovative design, serving as pet steps and a ramp in one. Two-step and three-step versions are available, and the high quality wood construction holds pets up to 130 pounds, which is a good-sized dog! While you are checking these out, have a look at our other unique dog products as well. We have quite a selection!
