PAWS (pets are wounderful support) pawshouston.org is the web address - What a great site and orginzation!

PAWS Houston is a non-profit organization that help sustain relationships between pet owners and their pets through a period of the owner’s terminal and/or chronic illness both in the hospital and at home.

PAWS Houston will facilitate, when possible, visits to the hospital, hospice, nursing home and rehabilitation centers in the hopes of improved physical and mental health for the pet owner.

PAWS Houston will participate in ongoing research aimed at providing measurable evidence that the human animal bond can be measured on a physiological basis. Phone number- 713-840-7297. An old blanket on the floor for a dog mat is a thing of the past.   Rover doesn’t just get his own special mat with colorful dog-related print fabric these days, his mat can also be temperature-controlled if his person so chooses.

A temperature-controlled dog mat is a smart choice, particularly for older dogs.  Some temperature-controlled dog mats are simply heated, as with an electric blanket.  Other dog mats of this type are more versatile and allow for coolness in summer and keep out cold in winter.

Can’t All Dogs Swim?

Some dogs don’t like or want to swim.   If you are taking your dog out on the water for a boating adventure or some other water-related adventure, I suggest the purchase of a dog flotation device for your dog’s safety and security.

Choose the size of dog flotation device for maximum comfort and fit to your canine companion so that he doesn’t try to wiggle out.  Check for features such as a rescue handle on the back, buoyancy capability corresponding to your dog’s weight, and bright color for easy visibility.


Teaching your dog to sit

Getting your dog to sit or obey any command you first need to get his attention and maintain it. Get him to  look you in the eye and hold his attention. Dog treats are a great training aid so lets get a treat that he likes and go from there.

Calling your dog back and actually having him come back is one of the simplest and enjoyable tricks you and your pet can enjoy. It gives you the control you need to take your dog off the leash at places like dog parks and other places. Your dog wil love the xtra freedom. The kindest and most effective method is to use praise and reward when they have done what you have asked them to do. Basic hint - always keep dog treats in your pocket.
